Do you have areas of your body that aren’t as firm, sculpted and smooth as you would like? This is one question that most of us can say yes to. A tight, toned body is on nearly everyone’s wish list of most desirable physical attributes, but actually achieving one is extremely hard. Diet and exercise are key to maintaining a healthy weight and body shape, but even then, getting certain parts of our body to respond to our efforts in the way that we would like is sometimes impossible.

The good news is that there are now cosmetic treatments that can help us to tone up even the most stubborn wobbly bits. Whilst there are a variety of treatments to choose from, a number of people are opting for one a procedure called CoolSculpting. It may seem like a miracle answer for your issues, but for many people, CoolSculpting is far from the best or safest option. Fortunately, there are extremely effective alternatives, with one of the safest and most successful being known as red light therapy.

How is CoolSculpting performed?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical, body contouring procedure that is carried out using a device designed to freeze fat cells so that they are destroyed and naturally processed out of the body. The patient is settled into the necessary position and the machine is placed over the area of the body being targeted. This could be the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, flanks, upper arms or somewhere else. Once in place, intense cold will be passed to the area, numbing it and destroying the fat cells. The process typically takes up to an hour depending on the area of the body being treated. There is no downtime and you can go back to your usual activities immediately.

Although it is possible to see some effect from a CoolSculpting procedure a few days after the procedure, the full effects are typically not visible until 3-4 months later. This is because the body’s natural processes of elimination take some time.

What are the risks associated with CoolSculpting?

There are a variety of different risks associated with CoolSculpting. Some of the considerations that patients have to make include the following:

- CoolSculpting is only recommended for people who are in good general health, with no neurological or orthopedic problems.

- CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss tool and is not recommended for patients who are overweight or obese.

- CoolSculpting is only suitable for people looking for ‘spot’ fat reduction on a specific area of the body.

- The surface of the skin may appear or feel the irregular following treatment.

- Multiple sessions may be needed to achieve the desired results. However, for safety reasons, subsequent treatments cannot be performed until at least 8 weeks after the previous treatment session. This can make the process of reaching your optimal goal lengthier than anticipated.

- In some rare cases, patients may develop a condition called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia where, instead of being eliminated, the size of the fat cells increases, causing the opposite of the desired effect.

- Weight gain is also possible, and fat may be deposited in other areas of the body.

How does red light therapy work?

Red light therapy is an innovative new technique that uses cutting edge laser technology to permanently eliminate fat cells from your body. The procedure, which is non-invasive and completely painless, is extremely safe and effective at destroying the fat cells, which it does by passing harmlessly through the skin to reach them. Once in contact with the fat cells, the red light liquefies the fat contained within the cells, causing the fat to leak out and the cells to shrink. The fat is then metabolized by the body and eliminated in the usual way. Meanwhile, the shrunken fat cells will cause your body to appear to shrink in size, with the target area also appearing more toned and sculpted. Red light also has the benefit of triggering the body’s natural healing processes and the stimulation of collagen and elastin, helping skin to become smoother and tighter to the new, smaller contours that have been created.

How is red light therapy better than CoolSculpting?

Red light therapy offers patients a variety of different benefits over CoolSculpting. These include the following:

Weight loss

Red light therapy has been shown to be able to help patients to lose weight. Not only is the fat quite literally liquified, but red light has also been shown to potentially help to control appetite by adjusting the level of hunger and fullness hormones within the body.

Production of antioxidants

Antioxidants are necessary to help our bodies fight against something called oxidative stress, which has been proven to be a contributing factor in many diseases including cancers. By boosting your antioxidant production, red light therapy can reduce inflammation in the body, reducing your risk of developing some of these conditions.

Anti-aging

As we know, red light therapy can help stimulate the production of two naturally-occurring substances – collagen and elastin. These substances are crucial for healthy, strong, supple and youthful skin. As such, using red light therapy can complement your new contours by ensuring that they are covered by skin that looks as young as you feel.

Pain relief

In addition to cosmetic results, red light therapy has been found to be effective in helping patients to manage pain conditions such as arthritis and back pain. This is largely due to its ability to reduce inflammation, which is one of the main causes of pain. In addition, red light therapy is often recommended for repairing muscle injuries and other similar damage since it stimulates the body’s natural healing process.

Improve your overall health and wellbeing

When you choose red light energy, the red light is actually converted into a type of cellular energy known as ATP. This type of energy has been proven to help your body perform all of its functions optimally, helping you to both look and feel stronger and healthier.
